Guess I should introduce myself a bit more. My name is Alex, you don't gotta know my last name. I worked with the Paranormal Investigation Agency between the years 2000 and 2025, barring some time dilation bullshit. I'm 54 years old (plus 28 years I didn't physically age), a woman, and enjoy walking through the mountains near my site. I, as have my coworkers, have been authorized to share some personal anecdotes regarding my time at the PIA.
You may be asking why I still live at a site, if my job at the PIA ended in 2025. As I am sure everyone knows, the world ended in late 2025, and began last month, June 2026. During the apocalypse, commonly known as the Second Becoming, God-like beings took over the world and released thousands of paranormal entities upon the natural world. Some of those entities were already existant, some were not. Anyway, the PIA dissolved, and has become quite a few smaller organizations, focused on helping locally. We still got some monsters in our cells, but most got out and caused chaos around the area. We're in contact with some other leftovers of the PIA, exchanging resources and notes and stuff.
There's 27 of us working this site. Technically there's a lot more than that, volunteers and stuff, but 27 is what's left of the original employees. Gerald, one of the studious types, swears on his life it's actually 28, but I think he's just bad at math. A lot of us died in the days following the beginning of the world. Almost died myself, but some swarm of butterflies saved me. I don't know what that was about.
Okay, I'll start talking about today. I just got back to my bunk, and since I don't sleep anymore, I got all the time in the world. I started my shift after breakfast, and stood at my station. I wait for calls there, then go deal with whatever is wrong. At 8:25AM local time, I got a call about some floating bricks. I dealt with the same thing a week ago, so I just got some bags, to carry them, and a heavy rock to keep them down. It was an easy job. The bricks were floating a few feet off the ground, maybe 5. All I had to do was grab them and bring the bag to the incenerator. I don't know why I didn't use this more before.
A bit after 1PM local time, I get this call. The lady on the phone was hysterical, had me up on my feet quick. She was located in this old trailer park downtown. We were using it as a little campsite for folks who lost their homes. I hopped in the truck and sped there, got a 10 minute drive done in 4. It wasn't too pretty when I got there. 9 people were obviously dead, and a few more seemed injured. There was this older man, who I somewhat knew. He'd sometimes help carry the jugs of water to the food pantry. I never did catch his name. He had grown 3 extra pairs of arms from his torso, and sprouted mandibles from his face. He was eating another guy, who I somewhat recognized. This certainly wasn't a common occurance, though I remember it being a documented phenomenon.
It wasn't difficult to put the man down, just a bullet to the temple. Poor guy was in pain, it was a mercy kill. The other man was too far gone, and we couldn't save him. It was a rough clean up job afterwards, a lot of people had bites in them. If we didn't have a few mages, we would have lost a lot more than we did. Me and Ellie- she's one of those Hollow folk- were in charge of digging the graves. It was hard work, but between my strength and her being unable to feel, neither of us complained much.
Dinner was good. We've been eating clone meat for the last week, since we ran out of actual animal meat, but a shipment had finally come in. It was nice not to technically eat my coworker for a night. That's really all that happened today. Most of the job is just boring, small labor, like helping Mrs. Jacobs carry her merfolk son to the ocean when he gets beached for the millionth time. I'll write more tomorrow. Cheers.
